Last month, Kanuga was honored to partner with the CEEP Network for the innovative conference Beyond Pledge and Plate. The first conference of its kind for the Episcopal Church, the conference was also hosted at Kanuga.

Preparing for the Future Together.

The goal was to create in-depth leadership development opportunities amid the changing landscape of the 21st century church. “Kanuga was honored to partner with CEEP, and Trinity Wall Street as a dialogue partner, in the conference,” said Michael Sullivan, President and CEO of Kanuga. “Participants from across the continental United States and Alaska gathered with one another and thought leaders from business to ask how existing church assets can be leveraged for mission.”

Conference attendees were carefully selected from an application process. More than 30 teams came from across the CEEP Network and spent time learning from thought leaders, church leaders, and experts in various disciplines.

Preserving the Church for Tomorrow

The ultimate goal was to learn how to adapt to the economic realities of today’s church while building financial sustainability for ministry. Attendees explored creative ways to use existing assets and spaces through plenary discussions and small group workshops. The conference served as a pilot for further study as parishes explore the question “What is next for the church.”

“Thought-provoking sessions, discussions around campfires, and discernment by the lakeside energized all of us. We were thrilled with the participation and look forward to the next steps for this continuing dialogue,” said Michael.

Joe Swimmer, Executive Director of the CEEP Network noted that “Attendees left with new ideas on how to support and sustain ministry for a changed and changing church. The CEEP Network is excited to continue this work in partnership with Kanuga in the coming years.”
