Kanuga was saddened to hear of the death of The Episcopal Church’s 25th presiding bishop, Frank Griswold. “Bishop Griswold supported Kanuga throughout his ministry and was directly involved in our last capital campaign,” said Kanuga President and CEO Michael Sullivan. “Indeed, his leadership embodied the servant leadership we all aspire to as followers of Christ. He knew of the transformative power incarnate in camps and conference centers.”

“Bishop Griswold cared. He never failed to ask how I was doing, not in the superficial manner of many conversations, but with a spiritual depth aimed at my soul. I was fortunate to get to know him in many contexts over the years and was always amazed how he seemed to pick up with our last conversation whether a month or a year later. Our prayers are with his wife, Phoebe and their family as we give thanks for his life and ministry.”

Bishop Griswold served as presiding bishop from 1998-2006. He was succeeded by Katharine Jefferts Schori, the first woman to become a primate in the Anglican Communion. He continued a ministry of teaching, preaching, writing, lecturing and leading retreats, nationally and internationally.
