Meet the Newfies

With its two missions closely aligned on providing hope and healing, Kanuga and TimberKnolls Spirit Cove, a nonprofit equine and canine therapy program, are collaborating to bring headquarters to the region. TimberKnolls Spirit Cove provides services at no charge to veterans, military families, firefighters, EMS workers, doctors, nurses, teachers, and trauma victims. The program reaches more than 100,000 people nationwide each year. Look for the Newfoundland (“Newfie”) dogs out and about on campus in the coming months!

THE ANIMAL-THERAPISTS

Newfoundlands are known as ‘gentle giants’ with a quiet temperament and natural ability to connect with people in need of healing and care, especially those suffering from illness or trauma. Here is a video of them working with first responders on water rescue training.
