This year, Kanuga officially revealed our Core Values. Designed to honor the past and guide our future, these touch points recognize the important work Kanuga does. One of our primary core values is service. At Kanuga, we seek to awaken a world of good by providing programs that transform and nourish the soul for work beyond our borders.

A Season of Serving Youth

The calling of service is a holy task, and one we approach with enthusiasm at Kanuga. Every summer, Camp Bob opens its gates to those who otherwise might not experience summer camp.

Founded in 1998, Camp Bob is open to children ages 8 to 17. The campers are sponsored by more than 20 churches and community organizations from across 18 cities in the Southeast along with generous Kanuga Pathfinders donors. The camp’s motto is trust, hope, and love. During their stay, children enjoy daily devotions, outdoor fun, team building activities, and service projects. By the end of the summer, over 1,000 children are served by Camp Bob.

A Place of Respite for Children of Military Families

Likewise, Operation Purple serves a special group of children. In July, Camp Bob transforms into Operation Purple and opens its doors to children of military families. Youth ages 7 to 18 receive a complimentary week at camp thanks to the support of the National Military Family Association.

Children who attend are often dealing with difficult situations such as a parent’s impending deployment or a parent’s injury from military service. The camp aims to create a positive environment with activities such as swimming, canoeing, hiking, skits, and service projects. To encourage healing and help kids deal with tough emotions, military life counselors, therapy dogs, and military liaisons are on hand during the sessions.

This year, the Kanuga is also welcoming Operation Purple Healing Adventures for the first time this summer. Designed to be a special family camp for wounded soldiers, this new project will welcome approximately 80 participants.
