Program Director of Camp Bob

Kanuga’s Program Director is responsible will be responsible for the overall performance of the Camp Bob Summer staff. Camp Bob Program Director serves as a leader in camp, collaborating with the Director of the Bob Campbell Youth Campus to set long-term and short-term strategies and review policy and operating practices with a goal of growing Camp Bob into a leader in outreach camping. This year-round position also will support Kanuga’s Mountain Trail Outdoor School by managing the office in the off-season of Camp Bob.

Requirements:

  • At least 21 years of age
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher
  • Experience with ACA Certification
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications
  • At least two seasons of successful camp administrative experience

Maintenance Associate

Kanuga Conferences, Inc. has an immediate opening for a new team member in our maintenance department.

Primary Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, sheet rock repair and painting that relate to building maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of HVAC troubleshooting and preventative maintenance routines.
  • Knowledge and experience with the hand tools and equipment necessary to complete maintenance and repair on facility buildings.
  • Skills in following safety protocols and recognizing hazards to keep both guest and staff safe.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision to complete maintenance issues and repairs on facility buildings in a timely manner.
  • High school diploma or GED and at least one year building maintenance experience.
  • Ability to communicate (both orally and in writing) effectively with guests and staff on a daily basis.
  • Employee must have a valid N.C driver’s license.

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position demands work inside and outside in all types of weather conditions including snow removal. There is frequent need to stand, sit, stoop, walk, reach, lift heavy objects (up to 50lbs), climb, balance, and perform other similar actions throughout the work day. Some overtime work is required including nights, weekends, and some holidays. Employee will be provided with a company vehicle to be used during work hours and to be driven after hours during an on call situation. Kanuga Conferences is seeking a third shift, part-time candidate for our Front Desk/Reservations Department.

Hours: 11:30pm – 7:30am

Skills needed:

  • High school degree
  • 1 year of proven auditing, accounting/bookkeeping experience
  • Experience with computerized property management systems
  • Excellent Computer skills; knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Previous hospitality and supervisory experience preferred

    Retail Associate

    The retail associate at Kanuga Conferences, Inc. is responsible for ensuring our guests have a positive shopping experience. The associate must actively strive to create a customer-focused shopping environment. The associate greets and responds to all customers in a friendly manner, ensures proper merchandise presentation, operates the cash register in accordance with policies and procedures, while maintaining a clean and organized work area at all times. Kanuga has multiple retail location on campus and the associate may be scheduled at any one, depending on the need. Weekend, evening and holiday work required. (Up to 25 hours a week, flexing based on seasonal needs).

    Mountain Trail Outdoor School

    Kanuga’s Mountain Trail Outdoor School hires instructors for the fall, winter and spring.     Summer Adventure Coordinator

    The Summer Adventure Coordinator teams with Kanuga’ s year-round High Adventure Program Director to provide training and supervision to the Camp Kanuga, Camp Bob and Kanuga Conference & Retreat Center adventure teams.     Camp Kanuga

    Camp Kanuga is a traditional Christian summer camp for boys and girls ages 7 –15. Activities include backpacking, hiking, canoeing, swimming, adventure course, blacksmithing, target sports, climbing tower, rock climbing, creative dramatics, art, music and much more! Counselors must be 19 years old (or completion of 1st year of college,) crewmembers must be graduating high school seniors, and support staff must be at least 20. Experience working with children and in the outdoors preferred. Salary, room and board and bonus upon completion. Our staff must support our faith-based mission and be an active member in creating Christian community.

    Expeditions Staff

    (Adventure trips for Pioneers, ages 12–15 and Explorers, ages 14–18)
    Counselors must be 19 or older with some experience in wilderness skills, wilderness first aid, and adventure travel. Trip Leaders must be 21 or older with experience leading extended backpacking trips and certified WFR or above.

    Camp Bob

    Camp Bob Counselors are highly skilled, positive role models, ages 18 and older, with a strong desire to work with a diverse population of children in an outdoor setting. While the campers may have challenging backgrounds, they are just children who, for whatever reason, might not otherwise be able to attend a summer camp. Working at Camp Bob is a rewarding experience—your efforts really do make a difference in the campers’ lives. This is an opportunity to become a mentor for children who have a variety of needs including self-esteem, social skills, conflict resolution skills and most importantly, trust, hope and love.

    Conference Center Summer Staff

    Every summer, Kanuga hires temporary staff to fulfill a wide variety of job opportunities at the conference center. It is possible to work from May through September, but most positions begin mid-June and run through mid-August. Staff members are housed in separate men’s and women’s dormitories and receive room and board as part of their pay.
