Project Descriptions and Materials List – Knitting

Spud, the Sheep

Instructor: Meg Evatt

Make Spud and learn a new stitch at the same time, the Twisted Loop Stitch, a fun decorative stitch for you to add texture to your knitted fabric. And brush off the double point needles to refresh your skills with them as well. Spud makes the perfect gift for grandchildren, new babies, or just to keep as a companion for yourself! Spud is knitted in the round, using DPNs throughout this pattern. Instructions and tips for DPNs will be provided in class.

Supplies Needed

Yarn: Spud & Chloe sweater yarn, worsted weight; 100g/160yd; 1 Hank A, 1 Hank B, 1 Hank C (see pattern for colors.) This yarn is a superwash 55% merino and 45% cotton yarn. (And is expensive, $18.50/ball of 100 gm. If you wish to substitute a less expensive yarn, you can look at Yarn Bee from Hobby Lobby, Cascade 220, Lion Brand Collections, Drops Yarn. Make sure you match the gauge and weight of the superwash you substitute. If you need help with this, feel free to contact me. Also, check your yardage, purchasing enough to match pattern yardage.)

You can choose colors close to those of Spud or get creative and have a black sheep or tan one.

Needles: size 4 double point needles (set of four) or size to obtain gauge; you may work with two circular needles or magic loop if prefer.

Notions: see pattern. Instructor will provide fiberfill, unless you have a specific brand you prefer.

Colorful Cables

Instructor: Heather Storta

Join us as we take our cable knitting to the next level! We’ll cover some cable knitting basics as a refresher, then we’ll start working on Heather’s brand new cowl pattern that features a variety of cables worked in more than one color. Cable flare, intarsia cable knitting, chart reading, cabling without a cable needle and much, much more will be covered.

Supplies Needed

Yarn: DK or Sport weight yarn in three colors — about 250 yards of each. One color should contrast strongly with the other two for the most visual impact in the cowl.

Needles: Circular needles (24-32″ length or so) in about size US 6, or a size that gets a nice drape in stockinette stitch. (Bring a variety of sizes if you are unsure. Gauge is less important in this project, but we will do a quick gauge swatch in class.)

Notions: Cable needle, Yarn bobbins (optional), Knitting notions (scissors, tapestry needle, etc)

Skill level: Advanced Beginner/Intermediate

Class Limits: Minimum 5; Maximum 15

Special graph paper for planning your project included in the handouts. This project is great for long-print yarns and mohair-blend yarns. As the full pattern is over 50 pages to provide many charts and options, students will receive a pdf.  This pattern was listing in Ravelry’s Hot 20 for July 2022!
