Nearly 250 people from across the United States and England gathered at Kanuga May 21-24, 2006, for the inaugural conference Gardens and Grace: Spiritual Growth in the Quiet Garden.
Gardeners and people interested in spiritual growth took time to learn about and cherish the natural world during teaching sessions and meditations with an impressive cadre of keynoters and workshops leaders that included the Rev. Philip Roderick, founder of the Quiet Garden Movement; Esther de Waal, renowned author and scholar of monastic spirituality; writer, storyteller and landscape designer Terry Hershey; and evangelism professor Leonard Sweet.
Participants also toured local gardens including the memorial garden at St. James' Episcopal Church in Hendersonville, which was blessed by Roderick for the Quiet Garden Movement.
Hershey and a television crew returned to St. James' on May 27 to film a segment on spirituality and gardening for the Hallmark Channel show "New Every Morning." Check your local satellite listings or visit www.newmorningtv.tv for showtimes.
