Specialty Trips
Backpacking/Rock Climbing Expeditions offer exciting challenges for MTOS students.
These off-property trips generally are recommended for groups staying three or more days.
Backpacking/Rock Climbing Expeditions
These experiences introduce students to the natural sites of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Options range from day to multi-day trips into Pisgah National Forest for hiking, climbing or a combination of both. The students will need to be equipped with the essential gear (see expedition packing list). We can rent backpacks, sleeping bags, ground pads and water bottles. The students will be split into small groups of 10-15 to allow them to bond as a group, build positive community and reduce impact on the trail. These experiences are designed to be physically and mentally challenging for the students.
White Water Rafting
There are three excellent rivers under two hours away: French Broad, Nolichucky and Nantahala. These trips give students the opportunity to experience a popular outdoor activity with a qualified and safe commercial outfitter. Rafting is fun and exciting, but also is an excellent opportunity to learn about the geology and topography of the mountains.
