Evening Programs

CAMPOUT

Young MTOS students out on a campout.

The fun doesn't stop when the sun goes down. Evening programs are a great way to end the day.

Night Hike
(K)nights in the Forest

Half the world is always in darkness, yet it is seldom explored. The night hike allows students to explore the forest at night, concentrating on sensory awareness. Students learn about the adaptations of nocturnal animals and humans. Owls, bats, foxfire and basic astronomy are often part of the trip. Key concepts/vocabulary: night vision, nocturnal, raptors, fear, imagination, adaptations, rods and cones, bioluminescence and triboluminescence. Join us on a night hike and experiment with triboluminesence yourself!

Town Hall
Environmental Debate

The environmental debates cover a wide range of topics from water issues to land development. They are set up in the form of a town council where the students take on roles of those involved, either being for or against the proposed idea. Each person will present their side to the town council and then the council will make an executive decision to pass or reject the idea.
