Students learn how to use a compass and read topographic maps. They also learn how to orient themselves without a compass! The majority of the class is spent navigating an established orienteering course.

c. Demonstrate an understanding of various types of maps including thematic and topographic maps.
d. Discuss applications of current geographic techniques in mapping such as GIS and GPS.
