Vice President of Youth Programs

Kanuga is seeking to fill the role of Vice President of Youth Programs. Kanuga recognizes and values the importance of young people and positive formative experiences outdoors, serving more than 7,000 youth participants every year. The Vice President of Youth Programs’ responsibilities include setting long and short-term strategy, policy and operating procedures for two youth conferences, young people’s programs during Guest Periods, Camp Kanuga, Camp Bob, and the Mountain Trail Outdoor School. Accordingly, the Vice President sets the tone and direction, and serves as Kanuga’s primary spokesperson on camping, and is accountable for the performance of camps, outdoor and environmental education programs. Because the Vice President’s presence must be felt in several programs and campuses, excellent leadership skills are central to his/her success. Housekeeping

Maintenance Technician

Kanuga is currently seeking a full-time Maintenance technician to perform routine preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance on all facility buildings. Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical required. This position also requires scheduled on call work throughout the week and weekends and some holiday work. Permanent on site housing in provided. This position demands moderate to heavy work in all types of weather. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects (up to 50lbs) and perform other similar actions throughout the work day. Must be able to communicate effectively with guests and staff on a daily basis. Must have a valid N.C. drivers license. Minimum qualifications: High school diploma or GED and one year facilities maintenance experience. Pay based on experience. Back ground check required. Kanuga is a drug free facility.

Event & Guest Services Support Staff

Kanuga Conferences seeks an Event & Guest Services Support Staff person to provide event set up and breakdown, bartending, a/v support, and superior guest satisfaction to a variety of family, religious, and business groups. The Event & Guest Services Support Staff person will work closely with the Assistant Directors and Director of Event & Guest Services to offer exceptional service and hospitality to its external and internal customers and assist in the accountability for revenue and expense budgets and accurate invoicing of event groups.

Valid NC driver's license and background check required.  Must be able to lift 50 lbs.  Some weekend work required. Kanuga is a drug free work environment.

Guest Services Event Captain

Kanuga seeks a guest Services Event Captain to supervise and assist with the set-up, service and break down of functions in a safe, accident-free manner.

  • Assist Event & Guest Services Assistant Director in setting up/breaking down or other special event tables and equipment.
  • Chapel / Worship Support: Demonstrate ability to setup for various Episcopal services.  May be called on to oversee the Chapels and the duties of the Sacristan
  • Serve regularly as Kanuga’s management level on-call person.  Will require work on weekends and on or around holidays
  • To communicate pertinent information for hosting groups to the proper personnel & departments
  • Driving responsibilities which include: driving guests to designated locations, assisting guests with luggage, maintaining vehicle cleanliness, and other duties.
  • Conduct proper alcohol inventory for events and bartend events.
  • Audio/Visual Service. Provide and set up equipment to make an event, class or function run smoothly and successfully. Monitor AV equipment in meeting spaces. Support and troubleshoot technologies.
  • Read BEO and know how to complete a set-up break down of events; including but not limited to tables, chairs, podiums, projection screens, refreshment set ups.
  • Ability to multi-task, be detail-oriented, and be able to problem solve in order to effectively deal with internal and external customers.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all of our guests and will support other departments including Sales, Food Services, Front Office, and Housekeeping and Maintenance, as needed.

Grounds

Kanuga Conferences is seeking a year round part-time staff member in our grounds department. Current Duties include: grass mowing, trimming, and edging. Trimming of trees and shrubbery.  Previous experience or similar preferred.  Weekend and holiday work may be required.

Seasonal Employment:

Kanuga's Mountain Trail Outdoor School hires instructors for the fall, winter and spring. MTOS offers day, multi-day or weeklong programs to school groups, youth groups, clubs, businesses, and other organizations. With customized curriculums to meet the goals of each group, instructors lead natural science study, community building activities and opportunities for participants to increase their self confidence through adventure based activities.

 

Summer Employment:

Camp Kanuga is a traditional Christian summer camp for boys and girls ages 7-15. Activities include backpacking, hiking, canoeing, swimming, adventure course, climbing tower, rock climbing, creative dramatics, art, music and much more! Counselors must be 18 years old and Junior Counselors must be 17. Camp Kanuga Trailblazers is looking for instructors to lead backpacking and canoeing trips for campers ages 15-17. Instructors must be 19 or older with some experience. Lead instructors must be 21 or older with experience leading extended backpacking trips and certified WFR or above. Camp Bob is looking for positive role models who have a strong desire to work with a diverse population of children in the outdoors. The summer begins with two weeks of staff training, followed by 10 weeks of fast-paced camping sessions. Conference Center Summer Staff: Every summer Kanuga hires a temporary staff to fulfill a wide variety of job opportunities at the conference center. It is possible to work from May through September; most positions are for the summer months.
