Liturgical Arts XIII
Artistic Expressions of Your Faith
August 22-27, 2010

Renewing the spirit. Enriching the mind.
Inspiring hands and voices.
Discover or develop your personal creative abilities as you work, share and play in an encouraging Christian community.
This 13th annual conference is a valuable tool for choristers, needleworkers, weavers, quilters and photographers. Participants have the opportunity to learn a craft they can enjoy for years to come as well as to create beautiful works of art.
- Optional Afternoon Workshops
-
- Canvas Painting — Have you ever wanted to adapt a picture or pattern to needlepoint? Learn the basics in one afternoon session. Paints, small pieces of canvas and brushes will be provided. Bring a sample design to paint or choose from samples provided. Led by Sally Boom.
- Color for Liturgical Designers — Learn the basics of color for liturgical design. Expand meaningfully beyond a single shade of purple, red, green or white to develop interesting, vibrant and harmonious color combinations for your liturgical art. Led by Pamela Hardiman.
- Flower Arranging for Parish Dinners and Receptions — This hands-on workshop will explore methods that work and pitfalls to avoid. Led by Robin Smith.
- Bookmark in Progress — Create a 9-inch long bookmark with a choice of already woven-in borders. There will be an interlaced border added with a mitred top and a fringed base plus an opportunity to learn reversible blackwork. The kit will cost $6 and includes all materials. Led by Marion Scoular.
- The Traveling Loom — Try the ancient and relaxing craft of weaving on the traveling loom. If each participant weaves an inch or so, by the end of the conference we will have a new vestment or hanging to give to Kanuga. An hour of introduction to weaving also will be offered one afternoon in the weaving classroom. Led by Jane Stickney.
Morning classes are led by some of the finest artisans in their fields. Concentrate on one of seven areas, with each instructor employing a hands-on approach. Kits and supplies are provided by instructors at an additional cost.
Afternoons are free for working on projects, relaxing in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina or attending optional workshops.
Each day begins and ends with a worship service in one of Kanuga's chapels. The opening and closing Eucharists are unforgettable experiences — the blessing of hands before starting the work of the week and then the blessing of the works that have been completed.
