TRAILBLAZER ADVENTURE

About the Program

TRAIL BREAK

Trail break!

Offered in two-week sessions, the three traditional Trailblazer Adventure and two Pack and Paddle sessions run concurrently with Sessions 2, 3 and 4 of Camp Kanuga, enabling siblings for each program to travel to and from Kanuga together.

Emphasis is placed upon (1) building self-confidence and self-esteem through successfully meeting personal challenges and (2) learning the value of teamwork. The base camp experiences are planned to create a sense of group unity, of dependence upon one another.

Activities include Ropes Course sessions, construction projects, and, in preparation for days of trail life, the staff offers instruction in minimal impact camping, map and compass skills, cooking on a camp stove, remaining healthy on the trail, packing and fitting a backpack properly and distributing trail food and common gear.

IS THIS FUN OR WHAT?

Is this fun or what?

The days on the mountain trails—sometimes rugged, other times tranquil, always eventful— require personal stamina, endurance, and a determination to succeed, but more than that—to succeed and to enjoy.

On the trail and at Meg’s Outpost the Trailblazer Adventurers gain environmental awareness seeing first-hand the marvel of God’s creation, and learn to live more simply within it.

As the session progresses, the Trailblazer Adventurers become a closely-knit group as they respond to the staff’s emphasis on dependence, independence, responsibility, and leadership. Each day on the trail, two of the group are chosen as leaders for each of the two teams. They have responsibility for reading the map to determine the correct route and for setting a pace to arrive at that night’s campsite on schedule, for keeping the group together, selecting times and places for rest stops and for the lunch break, and for choosing side trips to scenic views.
