Camp Kanuga is an awesome place to be in the summer!
Camp Kanuga is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina at 2,300 feet elevation. Kanuga is six miles from Hendersonville. The camp is one mile from Kanuga Conference Center, yet still on Kanuga property.
Each of our 12 cabins can house up to 10 campers, a counselor and a junior counselor. Cabin assignments are made by gender, age and grade in school. Cabin counselors are at least 18 years old. Counselors are chosen for their character, education, camping experience and the example of a Christian lifestyle they can set for their campers.
Bathhouses with hot water showers are located at the end of each cabin. In addition, each two cabins share a supplemental bathhouse. All meals are prepared and served in the camp’s Verduin dining hall, which has a Grade A health department rating.
The Bowen Playing Field, a larger than football-size field, was constructed in the winter of 2003 and was first used by campers that summer. It is just above the camp picnic grounds.
The Caney Ropes Course, in a wooded area next to Bowen Field and the camp picnic grounds, was first used in 2005 and features a four-element ropes course, bouldering wall, V-swing and climbing tower.
Lake McCready offers a waterfront for swimming and canoeing. Campers use hiking trails and camping areas on Kanuga’s 1,400 acres of woodland.
Other program facilities include the Fox Activities Building, two recreation pavilions, two activity fields, an archery range, the outdoor living skills cabin and an on-site rock face for climbing. The Chapel of St. Andrew overlooks Lake McCready and creates an inviting place for campers and staff to gather for opening and closing ceremonies and for regular chapel services.
