Camp Life
Campers sing during a worship service.
Christian Environment
Camp Kanuga is an enthusiastically Christian community. Devotions are held each morning and night. Staff members are selected for the wholesome lifestyle example they can set for the campers and for their camping and activity skills. Every camper has an opportunity to take part in a celebration of the Holy Eucharist conducted in the Episcopal tradition. Worship services are usually held in the camp's Chapel of St. Andrew, built in 1962 and rebuilt by Junior Counselors in 1983. The bridge leading to this outdoor chapel is known as God's Walk and the stream it crosses Silent Brook. Campers created the tradition of remaining silent once they make that passage.
Evening Programs
Evening programs provide an opportunity for the entire camp to have fun together in activities such as dances, storytelling, talent shows and scavenger hunts.
SundayShine
All of camp gathers together for SundayShine.
A more recent tradition is SundayShine, a Sunday morning musical celebration service. Campers and staff congregate in the Fox Building to sing, dance, make music and perform modern day biblical skits. In the afternoons, the camp meets together for the Camp Kanuga Luau or Camp Kanuga Olympics. After dinner, we meet in St. Andrew's Chapel for Eucharist, followed by Reflection Groups which allow campers to have important spiritual discussions.
