A Hello from Down Under

G'day from Australia, campers!

Before you ask, no, we do not ride Kangaroos here - the cool kids ride emus. I come from Melbourne, which is right down the bottom of Australia, and it's going to take me more than 24 hours of plane travel to get over to meet you guys!

I finished high school last year (we call our final year "VCE") and I'm going to university next year to study Arts. But my main plan for this year is to rock out at Camp Kanuga.

This is my first year at Camp Kanuga and I'm really excited to meet everyone from the states and around the world. I'm going to be teaching swimming (what can I say? I'm an Aussie; we love swimming) as well as doing a bit of lifeguard training at Camp Kanuga, which should be pretty awesome.

In Australia I play Aussie Rules footy, basketball, swimming and surfing when I get the chance. I am looking forward to learning some American sports such as baseball and your weird version of football.

I love to listen to music (AC/DC), and although I can't play to save my own skin, I am looking forward to you guys bringing out the guitars and rocking it out!

Can't wait to meet all of you.

Rob Crispen to Return to Camp

Kanugans,

For those of you who haven't met me, I'm Robert Crispen, hailing from the wonderful bluegrass fields of Kentucky. I'm returning for my third year at Kanuga, and my second year heading up the Archery Program here at Camp. I'm currently a Sophomore at the University of Kentucky (Go Cats!), majoring in Psychology and I'm interested in becoming a clinical Psychologist.

I hope all of you have been having a great school year, because it's been pure chaos for me. I started studying Russian and let me tell you, that language is difficult. Beyond that I've been having a great year watching the UK Basketball team bounce back (sorry UNC fans), and actually getting to know a few of the players! But, Spring is right around the corner, which means that school is ending soon (super excited), and more importantly camp is getting closer! (86 Days, as of the day I wrote this!)

For all the returning campers, I'm so excited to see you all again! If you missed it, we finally "fixed' the benches at the Archery range, so they won't fall over on you! Which is really exciting, for me at least. And for all the new campers, we have an amazing archery program and I cannot wait to get you guys on the range and shooting. Get excited about archery, and more importantly get excited about camp!

Best Wishes,

Rob

Our Newest Counselor George

Hello Campers of Kanuga!!

I’m George and I’m coming to you guys from the cloudy wet weather of Norfolk, England. This is my first time at Camp and only my second time in America.

I am now finishing a National Diploma in Sports Development and hopefully should be off to university to study Sports & Community Development. I play basketball and football (like everyone else in England) what you guys call soccer, and I hope everyone knows this summer it’s England .vs. USA in the World Cup! Bring it on! :D

So you might believe my main area might be sports this year?!?.... wrong!!

I am a big fan of performing arts and have a background of different kinds of drama pieces, including spoken word poetry... and I look forward to teaching you at some point that poetry can be cool! There’s going to be all sorts of new games at “pfarts” this year, with me giving you the English edge!

I’m so excited and looking forward to seeing plenty of smiles at “pfarts” or on the Football pitch and Basketball court this summer! It’s going to be awesome!!

See you all soon,

George

Update from Pierce

Hello Kanugans of all ages. I've been busy and I'm sorry we haven't been in touch. I've been out of touch with this world for quite some time. I've been without bathrooms, without cell phones, without restaurants, gas stations, beds, sofas, and even carpets. I know, shocking. But now I'm back from the wilderness of the Western United States and I've been participating in activities that I previously took for granted. Things like: making pizza from scratch, walking along the streets of my town, and having long conversations with friends old and new. I encourage everyone to remember your times at Kanuga and hold those memories close through winter and spread some warmth around using that energy, that energy that courses through you every summer for either nine (sessions I & V), thirteen (II, III, & IV), twenty two (stay-overs I to II or IV to V), or twenty six (stay-overs through II, III, or IV) days. I miss Kanuga already, I was there over Thanksgiving, and I hope to be there this coming summer. Get excited!
