Head Female Counselor

Hi Campers!!!

I am Katherine Sheetz and I am SO excited to be back at camp this summer as your Head Female Counselor! I was born and raised in the beautiful Augusta, Georgia, which you all probably know of because of the Masters. Currently, I am finishing up my senior year at the University of Georgia as a math education major and will begin graduate school here next fall.

This will be my 9th year at kanuga, and I am thrilled to be sharing this summer with you! Some of my favorite things about camp are: string bracelets, dressing up in crazy outfits, sweeping, camp food, ringing the bell, chacos, toad hall, rock climbing, junior counselors, camp dances, cabin clean-up, catching newts and the list could go on! For both the new and old campers, get ready to experience the best summer Camp Kanuga has ever had! :D

See you all so soon!
Katherine

Liz Vinal-Counselor

HI everyone my name is LIZ VINAL. I am SUPER EXCITED to be working at Kanuga this summer. I was camper starting at 9 years old and went all the way to age 15. Unfortunately I was not able to Trailblazer or be a JC but I will be a COUNSELOR!!

I will be working with Aquatics/ waterfront. I love the water and the lake at Kanuga. I can't wait to get everyone involved with swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and catching newts. It is going to be a blast working in the water everyday. I will not stress enough the safety of SUNSCREEN!!!

I will be a Sophomore at the University of North Florida (Go Ospreys SWOOP). I plan on teaching everyone the signature SWOOP! While attending UNF I became a proud sister of the Delta Gamma Fraternity. I am an officer (Social Awareness), which means i keep my sisters looking proper and being safe. I love to hang out with all my wonder sisters. I have no idea where i would be with out them. I am majoring in Secondary Education Biology. I am not for sure if i am going to keep that but we will see.

I love to go to the beach, watch movies, swim, run, and hang out with the lovely ladies of Dee Gee. I love music and reading also. Dancing like no one is watching is the best! I can not wait to show all the campers a fun and exciting time just like i had as a camper! Kanuga made me the person i am today so i want to show everyone that same experience!!! look forward to meeting everyone.

All the love in the world,
Liz Vinal

Anna on her way to camp

Hey Campers!!!

My name is Anna Forrester and this will be my eighth summer at Camp Kanuga! My summers as a camper, trailblazer, and JC have given me the most memorable experiences of my life and I am THRILLED to be returning as a counselor to make even MORE memories!

I am from Kingsport, Tennessee and will start my freshman year of college this fall at the University of Tennessee (GO VOLS!). I am a HUGE Tennessee fan so you will definitely see me representing the Orange and White. In college, I plan on going into an Art field (probably Studio Art or Graphic Design) or Education.

This summer I will be working with the climbing staff! I sincerely hope I can help campers expand their comfort zones, to reach new heights and goals. I love climbing because, no matter how high you climb, you have accomplished something!! That’s the way I feel about running too. Running is one of my FAVORITE THINGS. I run track for my high school and have completed three half marathons (running in another next Saturday!). I love dancing and singing (even though I’m not very good at either), making up silly words, waking up early, good hair days, drawing, creating, reading, listening to new music, meeting new people… the list goes on FOREVER.

Whether it’s Sunday Shine, hiking on Kanuga’s trails, meeting all y’alls’ beautiful faces, kum-ba-ya-ing, or making new friends, there is something new to be learned EVERY DAY. I hope you kiddos are as EXCITED, PUMPED, and THRILLED as I am!!! Can’t wait to meet each and every one of you!!

Office Holli

Hey campers!

For anyone who doesn't know me, I'm Holli Matze. I'm from Richmond, Virginia, and I studied Musical Theatre & Studio Art at James Madison University. I sing and write music as well as play several instruments (I recently picked up the banjo...an Avett Brothers inspiration). And in September, I'm moving to New York City!

This will be my fourth summer on staff, and I can't wait to be back at the beautiful Camp Kanuga again! I'll be working with the other Senior Staff members in the office and with evening programs to help make this the best summer ever! I'm so excited for string bracelets, tie dye, free swim, CK food, campouts & camp dances! 58 days left!

See you all soon :)

EMT Sarah

Hello Kanuga!
I’m Sarah Reid, and I am thrilled to be coming to Kanuga as camp EMT this summer! I’ll be helping everyone stay safe and healthy around camp, and I cannot wait for the summer to begin. Though it will be my first year here, my sister, my dad, and my granddad have all had wonderful Kanuga experiences in the past, and I am so excited that it is finally my turn to be a part of it all.

I’m about to finish my junior year at UNC Chapel Hill, where I’m studying Biology and French. I’m also part of an awesome program where I’m getting my teaching certification for high school science, so I’ll be able to teach biology when I graduate! I love running, the outdoors, and all things Broadway… and I cannot wait to meet you all!

See you soon,
Sarah

Who's New at the Lake?!?

Hey Kanuga!

I'm Alicia, and I'm from Jacksonville, Florida. I'm sooo excited for my first summer at Kanuga! I've spent the last 5 summers working at different camps near Pisgah Forest and Hendersonville, I've been a counselor, a lifeguard, a cooking instructor, an aquatics director, and a wilderness instructor. but I've never been anywhere like Kanuga. I'll be joining you this summer as your wonderful waterfront director. I'm very excited to see all of you down at the lake.

I'm a senior at Stetson University, and I'm studying Psychology and Religious Studies. I love anything that involves adventure. I'm totally spontaneous and random. I love funfetti and kraft mac n cheese. My favorite book is the Lorax by Dr. Seuss and I'm sure I'll be reading it all summer long. Can't wait to meet all of your amazing faces! See y'all on the mountain soon!

Olivia back to camp

Hello beautiful people!!!

My name is Olivia! I was a JC last year, and I am coming back to camp this year as a COUNSELOR!! It's still surreal to me. I am currently living in Atlanta, Georgia. I am struggling to choose a college right now. Right now I am planing on majoring in International Studies at either Guilford College, which many Kanuga goers know about, or Eckerd College, in St. Pete, FL. I should know within the next couple of weeks!!!!

This summer I will be working on waterfront!!! I am so excited to be in the water all day every day, weather permitting of course. I look forward to helping campers learn how to swim, canoe, and just have fun in the lake! :) Hopefully I will be helping out with tie dye at arts and crafts if they need my help.

Will Seidel has me hooked on "throwin' some disc with the bros", or throwing a frisbee, so I have been working on getting better. Get ready for Brofest 2010!! Its going to be totally heinous!

I can't wait to see all of your shining faces!!!! (which is only 66 Days, 14 hours, 28 minutes, and 26 seconds for session oners)

Olivia (sometimes better known as Olive)
