Haydn joins the staff!

G'day Everybody,

I'm Haydn, and I'm from Melbourne Australia. I have just finished studying at the Australian National University, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Asian Studies majoring in Hindi and Security Analysis. Can you guess which one I am in the picture?

I love the outdoors, in particular hiking in mountains and relaxing at the beach. I love Aussie Rules, which is our homegrown version of footy and I hope I get the chance to teach ya all about it. I enjoy playing all sports and am really looking forward to being a camp counselor.

I'm taking this year off to travel around the world and come to camp! This will be my first time at Kanuga, and I am really looking forward to meeting all of you.

Cheers!

Haydn

Hey Yall!

My names Morgan Crouse and I’m from Charleston, SC. I’ve been going to Kanuga for seven years now, so camp is my second home…and I can’t wait for another summer there! I was a JC last summer, and Trailblazed the summer before so it’s hard to imagine a summer without camp.

I’ll be a freshman at George Washington University in DC next year, studying International Business. I hope to take some photography classes in college and maybe some foreign language classes. I love to run, read and spend time with my family and friends.

Some of my best memories growing up are summers at the Noog. Playing soccer in the field, sleeping at Covered Wagons, and hiking to Kanuga Falls were some of the highlights of my camper days, and are some of the things I love most about being a counselor. I can’t wait for next month… I miss the smell of Kanuga air more than anything!

I look forward to meeting everyone this summer.

See you soon,

Morgan

Will Black is Back!

¡HOLA!

(My name is Will). I’m from Charleston, SC. This is my second year on staff but my first year as counselor. I’ve been to Kanuga for four summers, twice as a camper. Being at summer camps was a dominant part of my summers growing up and even today!

I will graduate from Academic Magnet High School in North Charleston, SC and will be starting my freshman year at the University of the South in Sewanee, TN this fall. Go tigers! I’m so excited and can’t wait!!

I like camping and hiking and just being outside, enjoying Mother Earth. I like smiling, eating cake, building stuff, canoeing, playing Djembe (hand drum from West Africa), playing in my band (I play drum set), playing guitar, playing piano, listening to choral music, listening to bluegrass music, stringed instruments (banjo and mandolin), flip-flops, rings, old things, thrift store shopping, watching ants, shucking corn, looking at pictures of weird buildings on the internet, and fixing things. I think that mint-chocolate-chip milkshakes are crazy delicious. I can’t wait to see all of your smiling faces again!!

Peace,

=Will=

Vezie for Sheezie

Hey campers!

I'm Claire Vezie and I am really excited to be coming back to camp this summer as a counselor; it will be my 10th summer! Some of you may remember me from last year when I was a JC. I'm from London, England and the equivalent of a senior at high school, getting ready to take my exams!

I love the outdoors, camping, hiking, canoeing and I am also on the crew team at my school. I was a trailblazer a few summers ago and had such a great time that I am going to take a year out before college to hike the whole Trail!

I also play a bit of guitar and help out in a local school. I can't wait for camp and all the great activities: rock climbing, arts and crafts and hanging out at the lake.

Get excited,
Claire :)

Katie Zwingert Headed Back to Camp

Hey Campers!
I'm Katie Zwingert and this will be my second year at Kanuga. Last year I was a JC but I'm sooo excited to be a counselor this year! I can't wait for campouts, rock climbing, and cabin dance parties this summer. I've always loved being outdoors and doing things like kayaking, hiking, swimming, sailing, scuba diving, and fishing. While I might not be able to do all of those things specifically at camp (scuba diving in the lake maybe??), there are so many wonderful things to look forward to this summer!Right now I'm a senior in high school and very active in student life as a varsity cheerleader (2009 State Champs!). However, I'm very excited for next year when I'll be a freshman at the University of South Florida's Honors College. I'm not sure what my major will be yet, but I'm sure it will be something horribly complicated and nerdy in the science department. I'm counting down the days until camp and I can't wait to see everyone!

Holli Matze Back at Camp

Hey everybody!

I'm so excited to be coming back to Kanuga this summer! You may remember me as being a counselor for the past two summers. This year, I'll be working on the administrative staff; helping out in the office, as well as making your arts program areas the best they can possibly be!

I'm a senior Musical Theatre major at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. This past year, I've gotten involved in fashion design, and I am completing an internship in the Costume Design department at school. I'm also the Music Director of an acappella group, the BluesTones. In my spare time, I love writing music, playing the piano, taking pictures, being outdoors and basically doing anything that's creative!

I can't wait to see you all this summer! I know it's going to be the best ever!

Holli

Katherine Sheetz: Head Female Counselor

Hey Campers!!!

I am Katherine Sheetz and if you have been to camp before, you probably recognize me! I was born and raised (most of my life) in Augusta, Georgia and am now finishing up my junior year at the University of Georgia (the best university in the country, despite what Richard says)! I am a Mathematics Education major and am very active in my sorority.

This will be my 4th year on staff at Camp Kanuga and my 8th year altogether! This summer I am going to be the Head Female Counselor, and I cannot even explain how excited I am! Some of the things I am super excited about: rock climbing, lunch time songs, duct tape bracelets, chacos, fun evening programs, campfires, catching newts, and meeting YOU! (this list can actually go on forever…) If you are a first time camper, get ready for the time of your life! I am counting down the seconds until I get to see all of the old faces again and meet all of the new ones!

Lots of love,

Katherine Sheetz

Catherine Outten: Programs Director

I am please to announce that Catherine Outten will be returning to Camp Kanuga as this year's Programs Director. You may remember Catherine from Camp Kanuga 2006 when she was a counselor and climbing instructor. Catherine is from Roper, North Carolina and grew up attending another Episcopal camp called Camp Trinity.

By this summer, Catherine will have graduated from Sewanee with a Religious Studies major. She claimbs to love camping, hiking and climbing though her best friends say that she likes plaid, bad country music, hammocks, practical jokes, and cool whip.

I am very excited Catherine will be working with me and Bethany this year as one of the directors. Catherine is an extremely talented person who will make sure every camper has an amazing time at camp this year.

When I asked her what she was looking forward to most, she said "This summer, I can't wait be outside, play four square, write letters, and make bracelets."

Welcome back Catherine!

Richard Allred: Head Male Counselor

Hey Campers,

My name is Richard Allred. You may recognize me as this will be my 4th year on staff, and my 9th year at Kanuga. I am from Wingate, NC but I currently reside in Chapel Hill, NC. I attend the greatest university in the country, the University of North Carolina (2009 Basketball National Champions). Right now I am studying Computer Science, and I am really enjoying it. I'm kind of a nerd, but I like to have fun. I really enjoy music and playing instruments. I am a huge basketball fan, and I recently made the trip up to Detroit, MI to watch the Tar Heels dismantle the Spartans, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I'm super excited about this summer, it's been my dream since I was camper to be the Head Male Counselor, I really think it's going to be a BLAST!

See you soon,

Richard

Josh Oxley, Our Camp Chaplain

Hey everyone! My name is Josh Oxley, and for the past 7 years I've lived in and around Fairfax, VA. But I'm graduating from George Mason University in May! As of September, I'll be working on my Masters degree in Religious Studies at the University of Chicago. Many of you know me from last summer, when I was a counselor at Camp. I'm excited to be returning again this summer, but this time I will be your Camp Chaplain!

I'm really excited about everything at Kanuga: being outdoors again, hiking, talking with all you fine folks. I miss sketch time in Arts and Crafts and Chess matches in the Dining Hall. But I'm especially looking forward to making Kanuga Community one of the best activity areas this summer! It may be a little different than you remember in years past, but I'm thinking you're going to love it more than ever! And be thinking about any cool activites you'd love to see come up in Kanuga Community, since I'm always open to suggestions.

So take care everyone, and I can't wait to get back to Kanuga this summer. For those of you who haven't been before, get excited: It is, without a doubt, one of the best experiences you will ever have. And for those of you are veterans of Camp Kanuga, you know what I'm talking about. Take care!

Yours,
Josh
