Lizzie Comes Back to Camp

Hey Everyone!

My name is Lizzie Lambert and although I have been to Camp Kanuga in the past, this is my first year as staff. I am from central Florida, and although I love the beach, the mountains are so much prettier. I am also finishing up an amazing senior year at my high school.

I will be attending Wofford College this coming fall as an English major. Can't wait! I love swimming, being outside, singing (although I'm not very good), any kind of music, and foreign languages. I am counting down the days until I get to camp. I cannot wait to meet everyone and have the best summer ever!

Peace,
Lizzie

Katherine Sheetz Returns to Camp

Hey ya'll!

My name is Katherine and this will be my 7th year at Camp Kanuga (3rd year on staff). I am so excited to be a counselor again this year, and I have been counting down the days until the first day of camp! I know each of you are just as excited as I am!

I am finishing up my sophomore year at the University of Georgia (GO DAWGS!) where I am majoring in Math Education. I am very active in my sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta, and also tutor at the Boys and Girls Club. I LOVE the outdoors, my friends, my family, rock climbing, laughing, chacos, summer, and of course CAMP!

I cannot wait to see all the old faces and meet all the new!

See you soon,
Katherine Sheetz

Meet our Head Female Counselor...

Hi friends!

My name is Lo. I'm joining the Kanuga community this summer as Head Female Counselor and I am SO excited! I'm a camp girl at heart, and while this will be my first summer at Kanuga, I have spent the past 14 summers at camp (last summer as a counselor at neighboring Falling Creek, and the rest at a camp in Alabama).

I am currently a junior Art major and psychology minor at the University of the South in Sewanee, TN. If dance (ballet/jazz/hiphop) were a possible major here, I would be a dance major too.

Here are the things I love: skipping instead of walking, the color yellow, when people make puns on my name, sunshine, rain, camp songs, really good conversations, really funny skits, smiling like a 5 year old for pictures, puddle jumping, and SUMMER.

I absolutely cannot wait to meet all of you and hope you have a great rest of the school year!

Peace,
Lo

Tee Leitner Returns to Waterfront

Camp Kanuga is a special place to me. I started going to camp when I was 10 years old and have been to camp for nine years, this will be my tenth year.

I will be the Waterfront Director, and am really excited to bring in some new ideas to make the waterfront even better!

I am 22 years old, and am going to attend law school next year. I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and was extremely active in the campus community. I participated in North Carolina Student Legislature, Kappa Sigma fraternity and worked throughout college.

I am really looking forward to having a great summer with all of the campers and making this a summer to remember.

Mark joins the team!

Hi everyone,

My name is Mark Owolabi also affectionately known as Marko, Mr. Mark or Zulu Warrior. I will be on staff for my first summer at Kanuga this year. I am super excited about working at camp and I can't wait for it to begin. My home is in Asheville, N.C., and a part of my heart lies in a small village in the country of Nigeria where most of my family is from.

I am a freshman at East Carolina University and I'm majoring in Exercise Physiology with the goal of going to medical school in the near future. In my free time, I love to dance around defenders playing soccer, skate, participate in the ECU Honors and pre-medical societies, dance for African Students' Organization, and play drums for a vibrant, spirit-filled campus ministry. I love music and spend way to much money driving with my friends around North Carolina to see my favorite underground bands play. I'll also be helping out with the music program at Kanuga this year, so I hope to spread my enthusiasm for music to others.

I've had some excellent outdoor camp experiences as a boy, and I hope to get three times the experience at Kanuga this year. I'm eager to meet all the interesting staff and campers as well. I encourage anyone reading this to come and talk to me when you see me this summer!

Meet Hope

Hi!

Some of my best middle school memories are of going to camp with my best friend, and I am so excited to make some more wonderful memories with everyone this summer at Camp Kanuga! My name is Hope Scofield, and I’m a sophomore at Wake Forest University. Right now I am an anthropology major and am planning to minor either in studio art, journalism or both. I have studied French for almost five years, and I recently joined the fencing club at my school. I am the oldest of five children, with two sisters (15 and 11) and twin brothers (8).

I read avidly; there are very few young adult and children’s books I haven’t at least heard of. I love music and singing, especially Broadway songs and oldies with my incredibly talented sister. When I was in seventh grade I discovered the joys of acting and have been in many plays since. This is the first year I haven’t gotten to participate in theater, so I am really excited to become involved again by sharing my love of acting with a bunch of enthusiastic campers. I hope to have some really great experiences with all of you this summer, and I cannot wait to learn more about you in return!

See you soon!

Love,
Hope

Ian is on his way back to camp!

Hey everybody,

My name is Ian Gregg aka "Robin Ian da Hood" and this is my second consecutive summer at Kanuga. I am from Hobe Sound, Fla., which is a town north of Palm Beach.

I just finished my sophomore year at Western Carolina University where I am majoring in marketing. I am also apart of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.

Oh Curtis!

Dear everybody,

I am beyond excited about camp this summer. I've been a camper, a trailblazer, a JC and now a counselor. My Kanuga experience began in 2001 and still continues. I can't wait to see all the familiar faces as well as the new ones.

I hope everyone's year is going incredibly well. I'm a freshmen at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as a media studies major with a concentration in film and television.

I've made so many of my greatest friends at Kanuga. Most of all I'm ready to have as much fun as possible and I hope all campers are too because that is my main objective as a counselor. So until then everyone be good and stay safe so that when summer rolls around you're in full gear for camp like me!

Best Wishes,
Curtis Morgan

Our Chaplain

What’s up, guys and gals?!

My name is Chris Cole and I’m from right here in good ole Hendersonville. I am a recent college graduate from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where I majored in business management and am a proud alumnus of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. I am a baseball fanatic and enjoy warm weather. This is going to be my first summer at Camp Kanuga as a staff member, and let me tell you, the count down has started on my calendar to the opening. I can’t wait to meet each of you and hope you are ready for a summer of FUN!

Blessings,
Chris

Emily Boone Returns

Hey!

I am so excited to be coming back for a fifth summer working at camp, which makes a grand total of 12 summers at camp! You may remember me as head female counselor two years ago or as a climbing counselor the summers before. This year I will be program director and will be working with the registrar's office, so if you have any great ideas for evening programs or activities we should do, which I'm sure you all do, let me know.

I go to Davidson College, and by the time camp starts I will have graduated with a major in art history and a minor in French. I hope to spend next year teaching English to middle schoolers in France.

I can't wait to see you all this summer and I hope that you're all as excited as I am!

Harriette is Back!

Hey there y'all!

I am SO excited about being back at camp this summer; I missed you all so much last year! For those of you who don’t know, I have been going to Camp Kanuga since I was eight years old, way back when in 1997. So I think this makes my 12th year! :) I was a camper, trailblazer, LT, JC and now finally a camp counselor! Kanuga is one of my favorite places in the world. It holds a very special place in my heart. I have so many happy memories of all of my friends and times there. I am still close with some girls I was with in cabin 1!

I am in my freshman year at Converse College studying environmental sciences and someday hope to teach middle and high school. I can’t wait to get to camp this summer to see all of you and start making new memories and friends. I hope you all have a fabulous school year and safe travels to Camp this summer. Get pumped: it’s going to be a good one!

Lots of love,
Harriette Bridges
