Yay Philip!

Hello Kanuga People!

I am Philip Cook and I will be coming back as a counselor this summer. This is my 11th summer at Kanuga and second year on staff. I am currently enjoying an awesome senior year at Christ Church Episcopal High School in Greenville, S.C. Unfortunately, I do not yet know where I will be attending college and am eager to find out in a few days. Wish me luck! My most notable hobbies include joke-telling, ping pong and other various activities involving movement.

Obviously, I can’t wait to get back to Kanuga since there’s no better way to spend a summer. Everyone better be ready for 3 ½ times the fun this year!

Best Wishes,
Philip

Katelyn Returns

I'm back! Yaaay!

This will be my ninth summer back and I'm so excited already. I can't wait to have another amazing summer at camp full of ridiculously exciting evening programs, eventful campouts, and those crazy theme days and nights, which are my personal faves. It's what I look forward to during the school year and I'm sure the rest of y'all do too. My favorite shorts are already packed.

I am currently a sophomore at Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, N.C. I play soccer there and I am majoring in conservation of natural resources. I can't wait to be back at camp making even more friends and memories!!

Meet Josh Oxley

Hey everyone!

My name is Josh Oxley, and I couldn't be more excited about working at Kanuga as a counselor this summer.

I'm from Fredericksburg, Va., and I'm a student at George Mason University, which you've probably only heard of if you followed college basketball two years ago. I study history and religion and am hoping one day to be a priest. I'm active in my home parish, Church of the Holy Comforter in Vienna, Va., and love working with youth. This will be my third straight summer doing it in one form or another.

I can't tell you how blessed I am to work with you all this summer, and I'm as excited as you are about all the sports and outdoor activities. Camp is one of the most wonderful memories I have, and I can't wait to make it that way for others. I look forward to meeting you and sharing the summer together. I know God will bless us there.

Grace and peace,
Josh

Meredith Allred is Coming Back

Hi!

I’m Meredith Allred and I am from Chapel Hill, N.C. I’m a student at UNC-Chapel Hill where I’m studying French and English. Having lived in Chapel Hill for 20 years, I’m one of the biggest Tar Heel fans you’ll ever meet. I sing in an all girls a cappella group at UNC called Cadence, and I love surrounding myself with music.

I was a camper at Kanuga for five years, as well as a Trailblazer and an LT, and I can’t wait to get back to camp! I hope you all are as excited as I am because I know this summer is going to be splendid!

See you soon.

Meredith

Welcome back Emily

Hey!

My name is Emily Hiott and I am SO excited to return to the Camp Kanuga staff this year! I will be attending Appalachian State next year, leaving the beach for the beautiful North Carolina mountains. This will be my 11th summer up at Kanuga and I am sure it's going to be just as great, if not better, than all the summers before. Every summer seems to get better and better and I am very excited to see everyone from years past and I look forward to meeting all of the new campers!

Camp Kanuga creates so many wonderful memories and friendships, you are all so lucky to be able to experience the "Kanuga Spirit." I am sure it will change your life; it has changed mine. Kanuga has always been a place for me and I am so happy to share my experience and learning will all of you. I am looking forward to this summer!

Best wishes,
Emily

Yay Holli!

Hey Everybody!

I am Holli Matze, and I am so excited to be a returning counselor at Camp Kanuga this summer. You might remember me from being a counselor last year. I can't wait to have another amazing summer with you guys!

I am a junior at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., and I'm originally from Richmond, Va. I'm a musical theater major, which means I absolutely love singing, dancing and anything that involves music. I also love art and being outdoors. This summer is going to be the best one yet! Get excited!

See you soon,
Holli

Richard is coming back!

Hey Campers!

Most of you may recognize me by now but just in case my name is Richard Allred and I'm going to be a counselor at Kanuga again this year. This is my third year on staff and my eighth year at camp (they can't keep me away). I am currently a freshmen at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. GO HEELS! Right now I am majoring in computer science and I hope to tack on a minor in business. Some of my biggest passions include playing my guitar (and singing camp songs), watching and playing basketball, and listening to good music. I am very excited about another great year at camp and I hope all you guys are too!

A little note from Emily Hiott

Emily Hiott, a Junior Counselor from last summer and a counselor in 2008, just sent me this little card. I thought she wouldn't mind that I was sharing it with you since it applies to all of us.

Later,
Brad
