Exciting News from Camp

Dear All,

I thought I would keep all of you up to date on the recent excitement surrounding Camp Kanuga. You can read my previous blog postings to see that I was encouraging all of our veteran campers to take advantage of our veteran camper deadline (October 15, 2007). In the end 363 of you took advantage of this new policy. Let me try to help you understand how great that is:
  • This is the most we have ever had registered by October 15 of any previous camp year.
  • 363 campers is 3.24 times the amount of campers we had registered last year by October 15.
  • 363 campers is 1.63 times the amount of campers we have EVER had registered by October 15.
  • We did not have 363 campers registered for the summer of 2007 until January 15, 2007.

The deadline is now over. So now what?

Well...now it is time to find Camp Kanuga's new campers. What has always excited me about Camp Kanuga is that we have such amazing campers. We have figured out that the best campers come from you...our veteran campers. The kids that you spend your time with at school, church and even other kids from your family are the ones who come to camp excited because they had you to explain what Camp Kanuga is all about. You are the most important part in recruiting new campers.

Soon, I will be sending the 2008 Camp Kanuga brochure. It is very important that you share the brochure with other people that you think might be interested in coming to camp. But in the meantime, you can steer your friends and family to the camp's website. The 2008 registration form is up so if they know they want to come, then they can go ahead and register now, before the camp brochure goes to Kanuga's mailing list. In fact, I would recommend you steer them to the website soon because we are expecting camp to fill very early in 2008.

I am looking forward to reporting the good news from camp throughout the year so make sure to check-in often.

Later,

Brad

FIVE DAYS LEFT!

Only five days left until the October 15 deadline for veteran campers to register exclusively. After that, new campers will also be allowed to register. Make sure to urge your parents to get you registered.

Here is a link to the registration form: Registration Form 2008. Last year I made recommendations of how to get your parents to pay attention to the registration form. I made a suggestion to tape it to the TV, put it in the refrigerator and a few others. Here is my suggestion this year: Tape it to the steering wheel of their car!

All the best,
Brad

October 15 Deadline

Hey there,

We are quickly approaching the October 15 deadline to register. 2007 was a great year for Camp Kanuga and we had nearly 50 kids on the waiting lists. This year we are trying to make sure that you, the veteran campers, get your spots first. After October 15, new campers will also be allowed to register, so make sure to remind your parents to get you registered now.

Winterlight 32

Don't let camp be your only dose of Kanuga this year...

Winterlight Website

So there is this great youth conference held at Kanuga every year called Winterlight that I think you should all check out. From December 27, 2007-January 1, 2008, teenagers in grades 9-12 will gather at Kanuga to celebrate, to explore their thoughts and beliefs, to worship and to make friends from many states. Many former campers and staff members got their start at Kanuga by coming to Winterlight. It is a great time...imagine Sunday Shine all day long!!! I encourage all of you who are old enough to consider coming.

A hello from Robert and Julia

Two former staff members, Julia Messer and Robert Black, are attending Virginia Theological Seminary in Virginia and will one day become Episcopal priests. I asked them to let you all know how Seminary has been so far. - Brad

Hey Camp Kanuga!

Greetings from Seminary Hill at the Virginia Theological Seminary. Robert Black is a middler (second year student) and Julia Messer is a junior (first year student). Besides being friends, we also are doing some other stuff at the same time--we both are taking a class on Church History and we are both playing flag football!

Robert is working hard with his field education parish--St. John's Lafayette Square (known as the Church of the Presidents, since it is right across the street from the White House in Washington, DC). Julia is just starting to look at parishes for her field education and will start later in the year at her own parish.

We do talk about Camp Kanuga and miss being there. Here's hoping everyone is doing well in school and in life!

Your friends,
Julia & Robert
