Katelyn Burwell back for 8th Summer

Hey Campers,

I'm Katelyn Burwell and I'm back to be a counselor this summer I am verrry excited to be back at camp for my 8th summer!! I was a camper at Kanuga from 1999-2004 and Trailblazed in 2005 and I absolutely love the outdoors and the friendships that I have made at camp.

I'm from Pinehurst, NC and I am just about to finish my first year at Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, NC where I am majoring in Sports Management and I am on the women's soccer team. I love playing all sports and being active and just always having a good time!

I'm so excited to meet everyone this summer and I hope to help make your summer as memorable as mine have always been at Kanuga. Can't wait!!

Ashley VanderLande-Head Female Counselor

Hi everyone!

My name is Ashley van der Lande and I am from Atlanta, GA. I am currently finishing up my sophomore year at Sewanee, where I am majoring in Environmental Policy.

I am so excited to be coming back to Kanuga and am eager to meet all of you. Last summer I worked at the conference center and then the two summers before that I was on trailblazing staff. Now I am coming to be on camp staff and I am sure it will be awesome. After spending eight years as a camper, camp is definitely my home at Kanuga!

My favorite part of camp is the people. I love how we all come to camp from different places and we manage to form an incredible community by the end of the session. I have not found any other place where this is possible.

My other favorite part of camp is being outside! I like to do anything and everything outside, but especially hiking...and camp offers plenty of this to keep me happy!

Enjoy the rest of spring and GET EXCITED for the unbelievable summer that is quickly approaching!

Hello Camp Kanuga!

My name is Erica and I will be your Program Director this summer. This will be my first summer at Kanuga and I can’t wait to meet all of you!

Brad has shared so many wonderful things about Camp Kanuga with me and I’m really looking forward to things like Sunday Shine, water activities, and really FUN evening programs.

I have taught elementary school for nearly four years and am currently directing the Housing and Residence Life program at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia. I’m an Army Brat – so I’ve moved around a lot and done a ton of traveling all over the world. One of my favorite things to do is hike up Mill Mountain with my pup, Manly, and then take him out for ice cream. I hope everyone is enjoying finishing up the school year – and I’ll see you soon!

I am Anna Henderson I am from Columbia, SC where I am a freshman at the University of South Carolina. I am majoring in Political Science. This summer will be my first summer back at Kanuga since I was a camper. I was a camper at Kanuga for seven years and I am so excited to be back! I am looking forward to an amazing summer full of memories and laughter.

Jane is Back!

Hey Y'all!

I'm Jane Werrell and I am so thrilled to be returning to Camp Kanuga for my 2nd year as a counselor! Last summer was a ton of fun and I've missed all of you so much this year!

I'm from Charleston, South Carolina but I am just finishing my freshman year at Wofford College in Spartanburg. I visited Camp last week and it reminded me of all the fun and exciting things Camp brings - free swim, counselor hunt, campouts, Sunday shine, the Luau, and so much more!

I can't believe this will be my 3rd summer as part of Camp's staff and my 6th summer at Camp! I can't wait to make more memories with all of you this year! I hope you're all as excited about this summer as I am!

Brad Returns!

Hey folks!

My name is Brad Shannon and I’m from Charlotte, NC. I’m really excited to get back to Camp Kanuga this summer! After being a camper for three years (10/Fx/Fx) and a counselor last year, I can’t wait for the activities, campouts, and great experiences that are sure to come.

I’m about to finish up my first year at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, where I plan to major in Political Science and Philosophy. There’s not a whole lot to climb down here, so I’m especially eager to be back on the climbing tower and adventure courses with you all.

My hobbies include enjoying all sorts of music, playing video games, building computers, swinging from ropes, but spending time in the outdoors most of all. I look forward to seeing my friends from last year and all the new faces in just a few short weeks!

My name is Holli Matze and I’m from Richmond, VA. I can’t even begin to explain how excited I am to be a counselor at Camp Kanuga this summer! I’ve been a camper since I can remember, but this will be my first summer at Kanuga.

I am currently a sophomore at James Madison University where I’m a Musical Theatre major. Singing, dance, theatre & piano are my main hobbies (I love ALL kinds of music), but I also love working with people and being outdoors! Basically, this summer is going to be amazing, and I can’t wait to meet all of you!

Katherine Sheetz-back again!

Hey everyone!

I am Katherine Sheetz and I am so excited to be returning to Camp Kanuga this summer as a counselor! This will be my sixth year here at Camp Kanuga. I am so grateful to be a part of the incredible and inspiring atmosphere that camp provides. The long-lasting friendships and unforgettable memories I have made will stay with me forever, and I cannot wait to make many more this summer.

I am a freshman at the University of Georgia and am majoring in Mathematics Education. I love working with children and I enjoy the beautiful outdoors that Camp Kanuga has to offer. This summer is going to be a blast and I hope to see you all at camp!

Richard announces his return

Hey Campers,

My name is Richard Allred I'm from Wingate, NC, and I'm really excited about being a counselor at Camp Kanuga this summer. This year will be my 7th year at Kanuga. I have been everything from a camper in Cabin 8/BC/FX to a Trailblazer to a Junior Counselor.

Right now I am a senior at Forest Hills High School. In the fall I plan on attending UNC-Chapel Hill to study either law or business.

As far as hobbies go, I enjoy playing basketball and racquetball. I'm big into music. I listen to and play a little bit of everything. I play the acoustic guitar, clarinet, and saxophone. I play my guitar in a praise band and enjoy worship music a lot. Anyways I can't wait to see all you guys this summer, it is going to be AWESOME!!!!
