CAMP KANUGA

Skills and Activities

Adventure Program

THE CLIMBING TOWER Challenge is the key word. Activities include sessions on the Caney Ropes Course and rock climbing on towers and natural rock. Some activities, including horseback riding and whitewater rafting, are limited to older campers.

Team and Individual Sports

SOCCERThe sports program at Camp Kanuga emphasizes participation by all campers and staff. Qualified instructors help campers develop skills, good sportsmanship, and learn to play for the enjoyment of the game. The activities include archery, basketball, Frisbee, soccer, softball, touch football and volleyball.

Outdoor Education

SEARCHING FOR CRITTERS Through campouts and activity periods, campers will experience the natural world as it was created by God. They will explore Appalachian plant and animal life, discuss man's impact on the environment, and learn to live comfortably in the outdoors. Campers are encouraged to develop a personal environmental ethic and learn how to hike and camp without damaging the environment. There are three overnight campouts for the two-week sessions; two overnights for 10-day sessions. Except for Ridge Runners, all campouts are on Kanuga's 1,400-acre campus at an elevation of 2,300 feet.

Arts and Crafts

The woodsy beauty of Kanuga inspires artistic expression by campers. Using this natural setting and materials, instructors guide campers to bring out their individual abilities and interests, such as weaving, tie dying, drawing and candle making.

Archery

ARCHERYWith safety being the strongest emphasis, the archery program challenges campers to gain the technique, precision, patience and concentration of a successful archer. Archery instructors are certified by the National Archery Association.

Music

No musical talent necessary! Camp Kanuga's music program focuses on singing, a common language for campers everywhere, and drumming. We'll learn new songs as well as old favorites. You do not have to be able to sing well to enjoy. Percussion instruments will be provided.

Performing Arts

Campers enjoy developing and expressing their talents. The performing arts instructor uses a variety of activities to involve campers in the theatre arts. A talent show is presented as a highlight of each camp session.

Kanuga Community

Through community building activities, guided discussion and reflection, campers will have the opportunity to explore God, friendship and outreach.

Aquatics

Water skills, especially safety, are important and fun. At Camp Kanuga's mountain-crisp Lake McCready, campers can participate in canoeing, kayaking, fishing and swimming under the supervision of certified lifeguards.
