Volunteer Counselors
You can help make a difference!
Each group that attends Camp Bob recruits volunteer counselors to spend a week at camp with the campers. Volunteering is a great way to show support and love for children in your own community.
Each sponsoring organization recruits one volunteer for every six campers they send to camp. The volunteer counselors spend a week at camp, many of them traveling with the campers on the bus, and participate in all of the camp activities.
The volunteer counselors are positive adult role models chosen for their desire to mentor children, connection to the campers and their involvement in the community. Many of them return year after year to show their support for the campers and to lead by example.

Frequently Asked Questions
- 1) Where will I stay?
- You will live in a cabin with 10-15 campers and at least one Camp Bob counselor. All volunteer counselors have a semi-private living space at one end of the cabin, and most cabins have a private bathroom.
- 2) What kinds of activities will I be doing?
- Check out our activities. You will be expected to participate in all activities. Campers will want to participate if they see you having fun!
- 3) Will I receive any specific training?
- Once you arrive at Camp Bob with your group, all volunteers will have at least an hour-long orientation on camp, our policies and our expectations of you. The Camp Bob counselors will be trained in leading the camp activities; however, you will need to be prepared to supervise, mentor and lead games during unstructured time. (Your sponsoring organization may require additional pre-camp training.)
- 4) What is expected of me?
- You are expected to remain at camp for the duration of the camp. In addition, we expect you to communicate with and act as a support for the Camp Bob counselors and campers. This might include but is not limited to assisting with group control, providing a physically and emotionally safe environment, communicating specific needs, asking questions, reinforcing camp rules and being enthusiastic. Most importantly, we expect you to build a caring community in your cabins and throughout camp.
- 5) What will camp be like?
- Camp is hard work and can be very tiring, but you will have the support of the Camp Bob team and other volunteer counselors. It is important that you come ready to be a camp counselor: have games when there is down time, comfort when there is homesickness, mediate when there is conflict and share excitement when there is success.
