Counselors
Make a difference in the life of a child.
The Camp Bob counselor team is an amazing group of people!
Each spring, we recruit a diverse group of highly skilled individuals. All of our counselors are at least 18 years old and have had previous experience working with youth in a variety of settings.
We look for people who will relate well to our campers and can provide a positive experience for all. We seek to find Christian role models who are friendly, caring and safety oriented. We screen them thoroughly and hire based upon their application, interviews, reference checks and results of a criminal background check.
Our counselors supervise all camp activities and time in the cabins. Once hired, all counselors complete a rigorous 10 days of training that includes CPR, First Aid, safety and emergency procedures and effective camp leadership.
Camp Administrators
David Griffin, Camp Bob Director
Experience, education and enthusiasm qualify David Griffin for his job as director of Camp Bob. David came to Kanuga as a camper in 1984 and 1985. He returned to Camp Kanuga in 1991 as a counselor and worked his way up to become the assistant director by 1997.
Involved in Kanuga's outreach camping since 1994, he helped organize and direct the first Hendersonville Young Leaders Camps and served as director for two summers for the Session Six Camp; both were forerunners of Camp Bob. Additionally, he was an assistant director for Kanuga's Mountain Trail Outdoor School from 1994-1997.
Griffin has a bachelor's degree in health and physical education from Georgia Southern University (1994) and a master's in recreation and leisure administration from the University of Georgia (1999).
Before returning to Kanuga in November 2004, he worked for five years as an Outdoor Recreation Specialist for the U.S. Navy's Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department. As a civilian employee, he served in a variety of locations worldwide to aid in developing outdoor recreation programs for sailors and their families. Considered one of the Navy's authorities on this program area, he was a frequent conference and seminar speaker.
David is excited about all the possibilities and positive impact Camp Bob will have with the campers and counselor team. He lives at Kanuga year-round with his wife Nikki and dog Bella.
Parents, this is for you.
