BUILDING SOMETHING THAT WILL LAST

Building something that will last for years to come...

Do you wish to truly make a difference in the lives of many children? Sponsor a group to attend Camp Bob!

Camp Bob is a traditional summer camp for children who otherwise might not have the opportunity to attend camp. In the summer of 2007, we served over 800 campers with the help of nearly 140 adult volunteers.

Currently, we have 21 different sponsors in 17 different cities. Our sponsors include community foundations, churches, outreach programs and individuals. We have sponsors that bring as few as five campers and as many as 90 campers.

In the past, our sponsors have brought children from homeless shelters, transitional housing programs, under-resourced public schools, group homes, church outreach programs, and community after-school programs.

If you are a returning group, we are looking forward to planning the summer of 2008 with you. If you are interested in sponsoring a group, we would love to talk with you about bringing a new group to camp!

A Little History...

SMILES

Smiles!

Camp Bob began in 1987 with a single weekend camp for children from Atlanta's homeless shelters. In 1990, the weekend camp was extended into a week-long camp at the end of the summer, held at Camp Kanuga.

The session was them moved to mid-summer the next year and continued in that week until the renovation of the Bob Campbell Youth Campus in 1998. With this renovation, space was available for not only the Atlanta group but also for similar groups throughout the whole summer. Camp Bob formallywas founded and so began the tradition of providing a summer camp specifically for children with limited resources.

We now hold 10 week-long camp sessions with Kanuga Conferences contributing approximately 20% of the program's cost through a discounted camp fee and additionally providing the facility, a core staff, and administrative support.

Kanuga Provides

Facilities
The Bob Campbell Youth Campus is just a small part of the over 1400 acres at Kanuga available to Camp Bob. The campus includes among many other buildings nine newly furnished cabins, Andrews Dining Hall, Perry Pavilion and the beautiful Gehman Outdoor Chapel.
Full Time Staff
The full-time administrative team of Kanuga is dedicated to supporting Camp Bob throughout the year. Camp Director David Griffin is a year-round employee who spends the winter months preparing and planning for the following summer.
Materials
All program materials and equipment are provided by Kanuga. From arts and crafts supplies to rock climbing equipment.
Maintenance
A year round maintenance and house keeping team are available to Camp Bob for repairs, improvements, inspections, and cleanings.
Seasonal Staff
Twenty counselors are hired each summer to work directly with the Camp Bob campers and many other seasonal staff are brought on board by Kanuga in the summer as support to the camp.
Training
All Camp Bob team members are led though a ten day intensive team training. During which they are all trained in CPR and first aid, sexual harassment training, and how to work with our population. We also provide nationally known certification for the counselors working in their respective program areas, such as in the lifeguard and archery programs. During the summer we offer much in-service training on other areas as we progress.
Health Care
Two to three Registered Nurses are available to Camp Bob during the summer months.

Sponsor Provides

Local Coordinators
Group sponsors are expected to provide a contact person, who will coordinate the group's trip with the Camp Bob administrative team.
Financial Support
Group sponsors are expected to pay each camper's fee. The rate for 2007 is $59.00 per camper per night. Four night sessions will be $236.00 per camper. Camp Bob t-shirts will be an additional $8.00 per shirt, if requested by the sponsor.
Transportation
Group sponsors are expected to provide transportation for campers and volunteers to and from camp. A charter bus or rental vans are recommended.
Volunteer Counselors
Group sponsors are expected to send volunteers to serve as cabin counselors to assist the Camp Bob counselor team. One responsible, mature adult over the age of 18 should be sent for every six children. For any volunteers over the expected 1:6 ratio, a room and board charge will be applied. All other volunteers will be free of charge unless special accommodations are requested.
Motivated Campers
Group sponsors are expected to recruit and carefully select campers that would not otherwise have the opportunity to attend camp. While there are many children with differing needs in our communities, we encourage group sponsors to establish criteria wherein the child would be able to earn a place at camp. Select children who have similar values, want to be at camp and will benefit most from a camp community. Camp Bob is geared for 8-16 year olds, male and female. Diversity is encouraged.
