Chaplain/Volunteer Director
We are currently seeking a chaplain/volunteer director for a contract period of 11 weeks for May 20 - Aug. 3, 2007.
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience working with youth and adults
- At least three years of college with course work in religion, psychology or related fields. Additional training/seminary education is preferred.
- A strong Christian faith, a passion for youth ministry and a desire to build meaningful relationships with participants.
- Previous child abuse awareness and prevention training
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Independence, initiative, flexibility and enthusiasm.
Essential Functions
- Ability to communicate and work as a team player with a diverse population of campers, staff and volunteers in a camp setting
- Ability to develop, implement and coordinate programs for all different ages
- Visual ability to observe staff, volunteer and camper behavior and assess its appropriateness
- Auditory ability to identify and respond to questions or concerns, requests for counseling and any hazards

Chaplain General Responsibilities
Motivate, educate and equip participants for spiritual development
Chaplain Specific Responsibilities
- Train, educate and assist staff in using fun activities and techniques to promote spiritual growth and interest in their campers
- Plan and supervise camp worship services, devotions and inspirational programs
- Serve as a resource and support for staff to meet their campers’ needs
- Facilitate a reward system for campers that promotes positive behaviors
- Provide counseling for campers, staff and volunteers
- Model Christian values
- Pray for campers, staff, volunteers and the camp as a whole
- In the event a counselor is ill or their employment is terminated, lead activities or supervise cabins as necessary
- Inform director of any camper or staff problems
- Assist in evaluating the entire camp operation with suggestions for the following season
- Uphold camp policies and procedures
- Mentor, encourage and support cabin counselors
- Assist campers and staff who need help fitting into the camp environment
- Together with the rest of the administrative team, plan and execute evening programs
Volunteer Director General Responsibilities
Train and supervise volunteer counselors
Volunteer Director Specific Responsibilities
- Train volunteers in their responsibilities through an interactive and fun orientation
- Develop and implement other training methods for volunteers such as volunteer manuals, pre-camp training sessions, etc.
- Visit cabins and activities regularly during the day to get to know the campers, volunteers and staff
- Serve as a resource and support for volunteers
- Monitor volunteer assignments to cabins and activity groups
- Provide evaluation of volunteers
- Correct or reprimand volunteer counselors for actions that put the health and safety of campers or staff at risk
- Encourage and model appropriate counseling techniques
- Inform director of any volunteer problems
- Recognize and reward volunteer counselors for individual and group achievements
- Document volunteer disciplinary problems and actions taken to solve the problems
- Schedule and facilitate volunteers’ evaluations of the camp program
- Other duties will be assigned as necessary
Salary and Benefits
- $240/week (more depending on experience)
- Room and board
- Pre-camp training
- 10 percent bonus upon completion of contract
