Nurse
We are currently seeking a camp nurse from late May-early August. Start and end times for this position are flexible.
Desired Qualifications
- College graduate at least 21 years old
- Minimum 1-2 years experience in the medical field
- Experience with children and young adults
- Ability to create, update and monitor health care plans
- Current CPR and first aid certifications
- Desire to work and live in an outdoor setting and camp community
- Current certification or willingness to obtain certification in North Carolina
- Prior experience in pediatric, public health, community or camp nursing preferred
- Love for children and the outdoors
- Great communication skills
Reports to
Vice President of Camping and Outdoor Education/Camp Director
General Responsibilities
- Be the health manager for the camp
- Supervise health and cleanliness standards
- Work with the camp director and staff
- Help provide adequate physical health conditions for all
Specific Responsibilities
- Conduct sick calls
- Administer medications
- Establish and follow appropriate medical routines including record-keeping in the daily medical log, disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications and utilizing approved standing orders
- Coordinate coverage for healthcare centers
- Post hours for daily medication dispensal and health calls
- Check and issue first aid kits to counselors and appropriate activity areas
- Participate in and lead specific areas of staff training pertaining to camp health and safety, CPR, first aid and use of universal precautions for infection control
- Train counselors to use first aid supplies during staff training and other times when necessary
- Keep accident and incident reports for risk management assessment
- Prepare a summary and evaluation of the camp season including inventories, staff evaluations and camper reports on health problems, and make recommendations for the following season
- Monitor health of all staff
- Monitor/evaluate camp procedures, facilities and conditions and suggest modifications that would create more healthful conditions at camp
- Assess possible illnesses/injuries
- Treat per standing orders
- Ensure each staff member and camper has on file a health history and examination form, as required
- Oversee health screening and orientation of campers and staff
- Manage health care supplies, conduct inventory of supplies and place orders when necessary, ensuring timely arrival
- Respond to emergencies
- Other duties as assigned
