Counselor
We are currently seeking Camp Bob counselors for a contract period of 10 weeks for May 24 - Aug. 3, 2007.
Desired Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age; completion of one year of college preferred
- Desire and ability to work outdoors with a diverse population of children
- Previous experience working with children
- Ability to lead and assist in teaching camp activities
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and adaptability
- Good character, integrity and Christian values
- Ability to communicate and work as a team player with other staff members and volunteers
Essential Functions
- Ability to communicate verbally with and provide necessary instruction to children ages 8-18 with a variety of skill levels
- Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures and apply appropriate behavior management techniques
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to camp
- Physical strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers
- Physical ability to accompany and participate with campers and staff in all camp activities
- Cognitive ability to plan and conduct activities to achieve camper development objectives

Head Counselor
General Responsibilities
To identify and meet camper needs, to lead and assist with camp programs and to fulfill other staff requirements
Specific Responsibilities
- Prepare for and actively participate in staff training, meetings and supervisory conferences
- Set a good example for campers and others by demonstrating cleanliness, punctuality, initiative, kindness and good manners
- Get to know each camper individually
- Recognize and respond to opportunities for growth within the group
- Develop opportunities for interaction between campers
- Provide opportunities for each camper to experience success during camp
- Provide opportunities for discussion of individual or group problems or concerns
- Help each participant meet the goals established by Camp Bob for camper development
- Guide cabin and individual campers in participating successfully in all aspects of the camp activities
- Supervise camper health and hygiene
- Be responsible for the welfare of each camper in the cabin
- Enforce camp safety regulations in all activities
- Supervise all aspects of the campers’ day including morning wake-up, cabin clean up, camp clean up, meal times, rest period, evening activities, getting ready for bed and after-lights out duty as assigned
- Instruct campers in emergency procedures such as fire drills, evacuating the cabin, etc.
- Lead or assist with camp activities as assigned
- Follow camp policies and procedures pertaining to smoking, use of alcoholic beverages and use of drugs
- Manage personal time off in accordance with camp policies
- Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities
- Maintain a good representation of the camp in public
- Other duties will be assigned as needed
Salary and Benefits
- $220/week (more depending on experience)
- Room and board
- Pre-camp training
- 10 percent bonus upon completion of contract
