Employment
Camp Bob is much more than just a job.
Are you looking for a summer job where you can really make a difference in the lives of others?
Do you enjoy working with children and look forward to a good challenge?
Do you want to be part of a team that works together to accomplish the same mission?
Do you want to have a fun job and make friendships that will last a lifetime?
If you answered "Yes!" to these questions, apply for a position at Camp Bob.
Each January, Camp Bob begins accepting applications for the summer season (approximately late May through early August). The summer begins with 10 days of counselor training, a time where staff are taught all the necessary skills to work with campers effectively. This time is followed by 10 weeks of fast-paced camping sessions.
We are looking for Christian role models who have a strong desire to work with a diverse population of challenging children in the outdoors. You must be at least 18 years old, have had previous experience working with children, demonstrate leadership skills and remain positive under stress.
This is not an easy job! You will be working long hours, dealing with difficult situations and, above all, leading a group of children and volunteers through a variety of camp activities.
While the children can be challenging and different, in most ways they are just children who, for whatever reason, might not otherwise be able to attend a summer camp. Working at Camp Bob is a rewarding experience because your efforts really do make a difference in the campers' lives.
You can be a positive role model and a mentor for children who have a variety of needs including self esteem, social skills, conflict resolution skills, and most importantly the basics — faith, hope and love.
Why Camp Bob?
I love my job. Why? I couldn't begin to list all the reasons. It could be because of the look in the children's eyes when they first arrive. It's a look of doubt, anxiety, excitement and eagerness. Most of them have never been to camp before much less the mountains.
Or it could be because of the laughter and yelling from the swimming hole that can be heard all over camp. The sight of this event is even better-kids plunging into the water without a care when before they were so scared of fish biting their toes off.
Maybe it's the way they cheer each other on at the climbing tower. Or maybe it's the way a cabin will come together to work on their talent for the talent show and the satisfaction they feel after they make up a dance or step all by themselves.
Maybe it's how excited they get when they find out we actually have dessert after dinner every night. It could be because of the 12 little voices that yell "Hey Miss Julia!" when I pass by them during an activity. Maybe it's because of the little hand that slips into mine while we are watching the flag being put up in the morning and the proud way the kids walk back that just got to put up the flag.
It could be because of the way they all work so hard to clean the cabin in order to win the "Cleanest Cabin Award" at lunch. Or it could be because of the kids that were so skeptical of camp who tell me they want to stay forever.
But for sure it's because of the tears in the kid's eyes when they leave and the fact that I know that I've made a difference in a child's life. — Julia Wilson
