Campers have the time of their lives at Camp Bob!
In the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, a unique opportunity awaits children ages 8-15 throughout the Southeast.
Camp Bob encourages children to reach their true potential in a place removed from the everyday routine of life, a positive environment where friends encourage each other and counselors help campers achieve their goals.
Founded in 1998, Camp Bob is a traditional summer camp that strives to educate, motivate and empower campers to succeed. It is held at Kanuga's Bob Campbell Youth Campus, named for the late Robert S. Campbell of Gaffney, S.C.
Camp Bob is one of two camping programs for boys and girls operated by Kanuga Conferences, a conference center affiliated with the Episcopal church. We desire to inspire in each camper with what we believe will last them a lifetime — the values of faith, hope and love.
We primarily serve children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to attend summer camp. Churches and organizations sponsor children in their city to attend camp each summer. They have generously committed to paying each child's camp fee, making this opportunity available to all children.
In 2009, more than 1,000 children and nearly 170 adult volunteers from 18 cities in seven states and Washington, D.C., attended Camp Bob. They came thanks to sponsorship from 22 churches and organizations. Last summer also marked the fifth year of Stepping Up, a three-week session for campers ages 14 to 15. Stepping Up centers around daily spiritual devotions and a variety of leadership opportunities.
Campers are selected by the sponsoring organizations in their city, which arranges the dates that their campers will attend camp. Campers are recruited by the sponsors from church outreach programs, under-resourced public schools, low socioeconomic areas, group homes, transitional housing units, afterschool programs and homeless shelters. The sponsoring organizations also demonstrate their support by sending local volunteers to work with the Camp Bob counselor team.
