Kanuga Conferences, an Episcopal Center in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, is one of the largest camp and conference center complexes serving the Episcopal Church and the global Anglican Communion. Kanuga’s signature hospitality offers guests 1,400 acres of quiet woodland, serene mountain and lake views, comfortable accommodations, good, healthy food and an eager, welcoming staff. Located six miles southwest of Hendersonville and 30 miles south of Asheville, there is plenty to experience within the scenic natural beauty, historic sites, restaurants and entertainment venues.

As a member of our summer staff, you will share in the championship of hospitality that has left an indelible mark on the lives of countless individuals for nearly 80 years.

As a Christian organization, Kanuga is concerned with the growth and maturity of each staff member through our common experience. We are looking for staff members who want to be positive role models and want to play an important role in furthering Kanuga’s service to others.

What It's Like to Work at Kanuga

Summer staff serve as positive role modelsThe normal work schedule at the conference center is 40 hours per week. There are occasions when special pressures require longer hours, but adjustments are made during less busy periods.

Summer staff take pride in serving othersChanges in assignments may occur from time to time for the good of the staff member or Kanuga. Each staff member becomes a partner in the enterprise within which he or she can take pride in rendering service to others. Your request for a particular position will be given every consideration. However, the needs of Kanuga and the number of positions available in any given category also will affect the final assignment you are offered.

Staff salary begins at a rate of $590.00 per month plus $100.00 per month bonus plus room and board. Summer staff veterans, applicants with specific skills, and leadership staff are paid more depending on attributes, experience, knowledge and skill. To be eligible for the bonus you must: (1) receive good work performance, (2) receive good citizenship evaluations and (3) work through your last contracted day.

Application Preference

Given the qualities of each application, preference in employment is given in this order:

  1. Those who previously worked on the Kanuga summer staff and received positive evaluations.
  2. Those available through August 31, 2008 or later.
  3. Those available through August 24, 2008 or later.
  4. Those available through August 17, 2008 or later.
  5. Those available through August 10, 2008 or later.
  6. Those who have had at least one year of college.
  7. Those who are at least 18 years old.
  8. Those at least 17 years old by June 1, 2008 or by time of employment.
